It wasn't. The article clearly states that a "free standing" computer was stolen during a burglary.
I don't think the writer is referring to this particular case, but the many previous cases across the country. It is a valid question why such sensative information could be stolen from a laptop left in someone's car.

It was hard to miss the simple statement in the article of "was stolen from a locked room"......

Scarey though, is the reality of what information would actually be accessible via computers dealing with credentialling of medical staff. If it was used for credentialling, it housed the info on every provider with privilidges in LGH, and it housed much more info than their CVs or SSNs.

The really stupid thing about all this? That the hospital would TELL the media what info was capable of being found on this stolen PC, if one were to actually look for it..............

Can we say 'litigation'?

Stolen from a locked room? All these databases being "stolen" is starting to smell funny to me. I think a couple sharp people have figured out the benefit of having these files appear to have been accessed without authorization. Or to cover such lapses with a theft. These days, I think a hacker could access those files without resorting to physically taking the hard drives.

This isn't the movies or television. It's not that easy. It is 100x easier if you have the physical computer/hard drive.
