I think continuing to portray the participants in this scheme as victims is somewhat disingenuous. The borrowers had to know that they were borrowing more money then needed and that the extras would be invested and the earnings from those investments would be used to supplement there higher mortgage payments, ( from borrowing more then they needed) and that there were risks involved.
I don’t believe that the borrowers know nothing, they sign documents, didn’t they dead them? Borrowing more money then was needed should have been a RED flag.
Having said that, I’m happy the banks are helping to the extent that they are and I’m happy the government is not getting anymore involved.

Being a mortgage broker I can see how some of these people got "scammed". They rely on what's being said to them instead of reading the fine print. They lay all of their faith in another human being and It makes me sick.
