RR,
So in otherwords, Hyperthetically speaking If something happened to one of your family members. You would be ok with ALL the details of the incident being released to the public then??
Sorry, but with all due respect that would be no one's business. Mine, your's or anyone else's

RR, I don't know what other PD's do but in our dept anyone can look at the policy manual. Whats the big deal about a policy manual. The manual is up at the municipal building. If you want to listen to 911 tapes or see the video, well you will have to talk to the courts and your legislators about that. I don't have a problem once the case is done, including appeals, if you want to look at things but you would havew to pay for the time cause I could not tie up an officer or sec. so you can sit around and look at things. But right now that is not possible so talk to the courts and your Rep.

I don't know what's the big deal, either. When Heidi Wheaton, the Supervisor in charge of public safety at East Hempfield townhip tried to view their policy manual, it made television news. I'm not sure if their chief of police has let her take a peek, yet.

Not too long after the Amish schoolhouse massacre I asked a local police administrator if their steet cops would also be required to wait over 1/2 an hour for the SWAT team to handle this type of event, granting a deranged armed individual full power of life and death over little kids trapped in a classroom. He refused to answer, informing me that police procedures are not discussed with the general public for "officer safety" reasons.

GP, I commend your old department for their openness. Which department was it?

No, not all the details. The gruesome details should be sanitized for benefit of the family. That' simple enough to do and most reasonable people would understand and agree.

So if you pull into your driveway and there are four men in black coming at you menacingly, what do you do? How do you know they are cops? Do you allow yourself to be slaughtered?

As for West Lampeter Police, I know for a FACT that they were not thorough. I contacted them and told them I had a plate and matching truck that was @ the Wal-Mart during the same time of night a few days after. Jerry never got back to me. Guess it wasn't that important.

I maintain that the mother of the kid knew the shooter and was frightened to tell police who it was! Too much is not possible from my personal opinion.

RR: opinions aside, thank you for explaining why someone in PA has to file a lawsuit to see the information that so many states make available to their citizens.
