Maybe Amtrak can use the extra $$$ to finally "spruce up" the station. A good paint job, removal of rust, replacing burned out light bulbs, and making sure that Christmas decorations are removed in a timely manner would definitely help.
It's an eye sore.
A new parking lot or two would also help...

It's all in the works, to be funded with gobs and gobs of taxpayer dollars. At a City Council committee meeting the public was told the delay is because Amtrak's engineers must approve EVERYTHING.

Remember, the train station and the streetcar are supposed to be the primary way of getting people from Philadelphia, as well as the Harrisburg Airport, to the taxpayer-financed hotel and convention center in downtown Lancaster. You can be assured that no taxpayer expense will be spared to make the railroad station attractive to visitors.

So what do you think it costs to build roads? Trains are a good investment for the community. Factor in all the less cars on the road because of trains and I'm sure the state and county come out ahead funding the rails. The environmental benefit is also enormous.

I completely agree with what you are saying. I was just piling on a heavy layer of sarcasm. My point being, the Amtrak station had always been neglected until public transportation to the taxpayer-financed hotel and convention center became a serious issue.

BTW, there WERE plans to build a rail platform at Harrisburg International Airport; the main Amtrak line runs through HIA property, next to the main road that parallels the runway. I haven't heard anything about it for quite a while, though.

Long-planned changes to Lancaster's 78-year-old station are expected to begin by summer. Plans call for the addition of shops and restaurants, an expanded parking area, a separate waiting area for bus and rail passengers, upgrades to the heating and air conditioning systems and realignment of the station driveway to meet North Duke Street.
It was announced some weeks ago that the replacement Lititz Pike bridge across the main Amtrak line would align with Duke Street. Will this not conflict with the plans for the Amtrak station?
