I don't get it. The article claims the industry was deregulated, implying that the constant rate increases are the fault of a free market and not politicians.
There isn't a free market on cable. There is a free market on TV, broadcast, Satelite and Cable.

Yet, where I live, the only cable company available is Comcast.

The article does not mention a monopoly, only deregulation. So, is there a monopoly on cable or not? Is Rendell really involved in yet another sweetheart corrupt deal with big business screwing Pennsylvanian citizens?
Wouldn't surprise me, but he's under too big a microscope to get kickbacks. But I'm sure Comcast put a bundle in his election fund.

And if Rendell is involved in letting Comcast have a monopoly with continual rate increases without competition, why is his popularity so high? What gives?
I don't know, I'm no fan of Rendell, that's for sure.

I asked them that question when I called to complain yesterday. Right now, HDTV costs something like $5 ON TOP OF the digital converter box fee.

I have NO pay channels. Were I to drop the digital converter box, I would save something like $15, but I would lose nearly half the channels I currently receive, and still be paying over $50 a month.
We ditched digital, it's not worth it. Return the box too, most TVs will receive the majority of cable programing just fine.

Oh, and whomever mentioned QVC.
Don't buy stuff from them and they'll go away.
Unfortunately, someone is. Just like spam, it takes a small portion of respondents to make it profitable. As long is it's profitable, it will continue.

Anyone besides cyber have directTV? If so how good is it? I heard you have problems when the weather is bad. What is the difference in price? Any help would be appreciated.

"In the area of advanced products, customers have received numerous enhancements and additional value over the past year," Alexander said. "Customers can now choose from nearly 10,000 video-on-demand options. Also, we've delivered new channels to customers in Lancaster."
I wonder how many customers asked for these "enhancements" and what new channels? I guess the Flamingo Dance Channel came online a I just missed it.

Maybe Ed Snyder just isn't satisfied owning the 76's and Flyers, he must be eyeballin the Phillies or Eagles now!

I have it and the only problems I have is when snow or ice accumulates on the dish, dump a pitcher or two of hot water on it and voila, digital signal reinstated.
All those bad weather rumors don't hold up from my perspective, heavy rain and wind, I have problems with some channels, like the weather channel, go figure. The one issue I do have is that the weather channel is basically airport weather, I don't get the local forecast. I have to know where I am at on the map and make my own determination from the doppler radar, and then get my forcast by figuring I'm close enough to Philly that the weather is close then drop the temps by about 10 degrees or so due to our geographical situation.
All things considered I will not have cable again, sattelite is the way to go.

Maybe it will encourage people to drop cable, and watch less TV. That would be pretty good.
Later...Shawn

I dropped cable TV almost 4 years ago, and eventually even got rid of my TV, and you know what? I take more walks, read more books with my grandchildren, go to the gym more, and in general, appreciate life more. I don't miss television @ all!! I would challenege and encourage anyone to do the same!!!
