Not quite true. There were at least four recounts taken under different scenarios. I think that Al Gore won two of them.

Besides if Bush was so sure that brother Jeb! could deliver Flordia, why did he go to the Supreme Court and have them interfere in the state's rights concerning election law? Why did the Supreme Court go out of its way to state the decision to halt the recount only applied to the 2000 election results in Florida and could not be used as a precedent if a Democrat was faced with a similar situation in another election? Why was the decision along party lines with the republican appointed justices prevailing?
I am so ashamed of myself for even participating in this conversation again.
What have you done to move towards a direct count election instead of the electoral college system we use now?

I'd ask when he was going to confess to war crimes and treason and step down.

I too fell into the trap of naysayers, and I am back. I have served in the military and spent 7 months in Kuwait in 98 under Clinton. We have too many "parking lot" presidents in the country. Everyone wants to have a go at it. IF YOU REALLY KNEW ALL OF IT THAT HE KNOWS. I would be willing to bet you might not be so confident in your ability to run the country better then the President and staff. Because of our constitution you "cool aid sippers" can say and do whatever you want (doing the damage to our youth's minds, in there ability to respect authority). And, to the country as a whole. We elected him together. Stand and be proud to be American. WWII we were attacked at Pearl Harbor, and we bombed the tar out of them for doing so. Now, because of trying to make a peaceful nation with war, we are getting our butts kicked around, because we are trying to be PC about the whole thing. That is what you protesters and Media do. Not save lives by speaking out. Think about it. I don't like seeing my friends die either, but that is something we accept as soldiers. "LOVE IT OR LEAVE IT" Remember that?

He wasn't elected EITHER time and as far as "love it or leave it", you're full of crap. I LOVE IT AND WILL FIGHT FOR IT against ALL enemies both foreign AND DOMESTIC.

IMPEACH the SOB and take our country back. Then, those who don't like it with their little hitler gone can take their own advice and THEY can "love it or leave it".

There is no need to respect bush because bush is not an authority and never will be. He's a war criminal, a treasonous traitor to our country and needs to be impeached, convicted, removed from office and incarcerated along with his little clan of liars and supporters.

Agreed....I have no love for Iraq, and agree that we should leave it!

Nothing further, you've proved my points. The saddest part is our own inablility to stop ....

yes, our inability so far to stop the radical rightwing republican jihad from destroying our country. However, more and more are coming to their senses every day and realizing that not only does dumbya NOT represent our country, he doesn't represent their party and he doesn't represent what is right for America or any other country on the globe. Our inability to stop won't be an inability much longer, too many voices are rising, too many people from both sides of the political arena are speaking out. The only chance the republicans have in the next election is to impeach the SOB themselves. The only chance the democrats have to ramain in power in congress is to impeach teh SOB. Which group is going to have the guts to do it? Or...will we return to our real American roots and stand as one voice, democrats and republicans united and say NO MORE to this little dictator wannabe who had the election handed to him by his brother, father and oil buddies.

AMERICA, not democrat, not republican, not independent, AMERICANS, stand now against this dictator and remove him from our top office before some other country decides to use his own technique of "pre-emptive attacks" and actually attack us. If we don't stand up ourselves, some body else will and they won't be containing the outrage to spare us regardless of which side we stand on. It's time to do it ourselvs before somebody else does it for us.

Talk about dividing the country. GW won the electoral college which is how our system works. The sore loser had to take it to court. That division still lingers today (see any of meat's posts for proof).

There is not an ounce of truth to anything you are saying. What planet do you live on?

"Love it or leave it," that overly simplistic, bumper adornment from so long ago, with its quaint neanderthal logic. I remember another quote/bumper adornment from that era; "Beautify America, shoot a redneck." I think though, that to make it appropriate in this new century it should read: "Beautify Amerika, shoot a conservative."

Do they have a special season for that and do you have to buy a license?

And how do you tell the decent ones from the radical right wing pseudo-religious zealots who are destroying our country? Should we make them wear signboards or something? There's gotta be a way....

oh wait, I know, it'll be the ones preaching one thing and doing the opposite. Nevermind, that should be easy enough.
QUOTE(Artie See @ Oct 3 2007, 07:07 AM)
The recount in Florida was NEVER FINISHED. GW Bush won the electoral college ONLY because the U.S. Supreme Court stopped the recount.

Even if GW Bush had actually won Florida, that doesn't mean "we" elected him. There is something extremely wrong when less than half of all voters can dictate terms to all of the rest.

As for the deep division in this country, GW Bush promised to bring "unity" to the U.S. Instead, he and his minions have actively attacked and belittled anyone who dares to question the wisdom of GW Bush's actions. The policy of active division was a key part of Karl Rove's attempt to marginalize the nearly half of all Americans who are Democrats. Instead, it was Carl Rove who was marginalized, while the rest of us must pay and pay and pay for his transgressions.

actually, except for him and his little minions, the rest of the country is uniting now...AGAINST him.
QUOTE(hahaha @ Oct 3 2007, 07:31 AM)

That is not true. A government recount was not finished but many organizations (mostly media) paid big bucks to go and finish the recount. They determined that based on the law at that time that Bush had won. Hmmm.... why did that not make front page headlines?

another solid lie. The ONLY completed recount named Gore the winner. Look it up boy.

QUOTE(hahaha @ Oct 3 2007, 07:31 AM)

We (meaning America) did elect him based on the current rules of how our system works. Some people are trying to change those rules. Maybe you could join that committee.

again, a lie. America elected Al Gore, the supreme court appointed dumbya
QUOTE(hahaha @ Oct 3 2007, 07:31 AM)

As for your last paragraph, it is politics at it's best. It has been going on for over a hundred years. Each administration seems to take it to a new level. The same will happen in 08 and beyond. Welcome to the wild beast we have created.

The beast will be destroyed soon, never to rear it's ugly head again. Through the impeachment of the little SOB, the message will be sent that America will NEVER be controlled by a dictator regardless from which "party" they come.
All that will be accomplished is the destruction of the two party system and we can all say good riddance.

I'm not sure what's going to transpire afterwards, maybe three or even four parties for a while but will probably settle back into two again but they won't be the two we have right now.
The best part? We won't have to listen to the likes of you and your lies anymore. THANK GOD!!

Enter the Miami Herald, which yesterday said that if the recounts had been allowed to continue, then "under almost all scenarios, Bush still would have won." The particulars are as follows: Bush officially won by 537 votes. If Gore’s more liberal counting standard prevailed and all dimpled and hanging chads had been counted, then the Bush lead jumps to 1,665. If dimples only count where other races are dimpled (which would suggest a uniform error by the voter or by the machine, rather than a voter changing his or her mind before perforating the chad), then the Bush lead is 884. If two corners of the chad must be perforated, this being the predominant standard for recounts throughout the country, then the lead is 363. Finally, if only clean punches count, then Gore wins by 3 votes.
