because people like you drive them over the edge, next question

Look, I don't usually respond to stuff like that, but do you remember the teen who was killed by the AmTrak train last year? Well, no one up there was getting the kids counseling and I was posting non stop to get them help. So knock it off.

I also had a nephew who killed himself when he was 14. So you want some tid bits? Why did he do it? We don't know? Was he harrassed and bullied at school we don't know. So you want some tip bits to help you be a better parent. There's some for you.

Reader, she was standing next to me when I posted it! She thinks it is funny.

I knew your daughter had her head on straight and was well adjusted.

Did you just hurt or embarrass someone in your family by sharing this information? I happen to know from a similar family experience that the immediate family of a suicide victim can be very sensitive to discussions of their situation with people they don't know well -- especially when it can be construed as gossip, unnecessarily shared information, or the like.
Just pointing out that you're human, too. Welcome to the club!

Embarrased? No. Hurt, Yes. I was making the point about what happens in childrens minds these days. I'm very well aware of the sensitivities about suicide. That is why I am not openly involved in prevention programs, but I'd like to be, out of respect to my sister. What I posted would also hurt an adult, not a child.
I was ticked because what was said was personal.
I wonder if the skating park they wanted to build in Matthew Monro's memory was built?

Reader70, I have not heard any more about the proposed skating facility, but I also don't live in that area. It's a great idea if it gives kids a place to safely skate, IMO. But then again, I'm one of those silly people who think that giving kids constructive hobbies and activities can help keep them out of trouble.

I believe if you read the rules, the items posted are supposed to relate to the article. I understand sometimes that everyone digresses. I don't think the forum was created for that purpose however. "Tid Bits" make it more like a chat room, which it is not. The threads become tid bits instead of discussion on the topic at hand.

Don't you see that you yourself are the very reason this thread has veered off topic. It is you that has started discussing Dr. Phil, guidlines for posting on talkback, and the nature of the people who post here. If you read back through this thread, very few if hardly any of your posts were directly related to the original article upon which this thread is based. Perhaps you should take some of your own advice and lead by example by sticking to posts related to the article that the thread is based upon. In this case, you are the very cause of this thread going off topic.
Later...Shawn
