Federal courthouse design specs require a 400-foot setback from the street, so W&S was a no-go from the start. Come to think of it, that 400-foot rule leaves like 95% of the city off the list, unless they look at the stockyards.

Wish they were. We'd have sold the place years ago and been done with the eyesore. The city has insisted for decades that the site had to be used for factories that would somehow magically solve all the city's unemployment, poverty and crime problems

You could put the Federal court house facing Vine St. (plenty of setback) and the New City Hall at the square. Just think of all the people and jobs for downtown Lancaster!
