Sorry, but the wife is at the high end of education salaries. Me, I went to McCaskey in the late '80's, East Carolina University with honors, and since then have reached the VP level in financial services. No, not with a bank. I spent all but my college years in School Lane Hills and moved away in my 20's because I wanted to make something more of myself than I could ever dream of in Lancaster. I do not and never will say I went to a great academic institution; I went to party and meet women and am not afraid to admit it. I also was able to go to school on an athletic scholarship. But, I also worked my butt off in school and since in order to reach the level that I have reached. I have reached the VP level in: a national, publicly traded, large cap company, at the age of 35. Which was my original point 50 some posts ago. That Manheim students should spend the same amount of time on their studies as they do on their football. Believe me, I thought I was going to be a professional athlete too. I quickly realized that was not going to happen and turned to my studies.

Your failure to compete at the athletic level you sought is no excuse for dismissively diminishing the accomplishments of Manheim Central students who choose their career paths as plumbers, female welders, or whatever. Neither is your professional success an excuse for such arrogance.

And yet here I am with my doctorate, living in Manheim... Granted, you generally don't see professors with huge investment accounts. My sister is a welder and her retirement account is definitely healthier than mine. Oh, and she doesn't live in Lancaster County any longer. Hmmm... I guess she thwarts Pedrohead's premature "point proven" as well.

I have to agree with Melody that it's wonderful to hear about the successes of my fellow MC alumnae (however each of us individually defines success). But, Melody? Skulking down Charlotte Street and propped up on barstools?! Ah, the visuals! Clearly, you're hanging out in the wrong spots... maybe you should come to a football game next time you're in from those farflung 'burbs!

yes, you are completely correct!! I should visit some venues where the clientele is a little more representative of the population!

And, I am not surprised by your identity! I should have guessed! It's so nice to hear good stories like yours and I am thrilled to hear you are at MU. I'll keep my eyes open for you next time I'm in town.

and, that is very cool that your sister is a welder.

Here's another couple of bums to add to the long list of Manheim louts and n'er-do-wells: my brother who is a Blackhawk pilot and was in Iraq for a year - you can imagine what he dealt with - any my sister, another Manehim loser, who got a scholarship to F&M and graduated Summa Cum Laude.

I am AMAZED at how much feedback came after such a simple article. The point of the article had very little to do with the feed backs that were received. The writer was pointing out the duration of district crowns that Central has won. I am thinking that he was pointing out possible reasons for their domination....coaching, training, and community backing being some of those reasons. How in the world did it turn into a bashing of Manheim and misguided definitions of success?

First of all, my wife and I love Manheim. She is from E-Town and I grew up in Lancaster city. As far as an area in the county, we are very happy that out two children are growing up in Manheim. Those that bash the area make me ask you a few questions. Why so much negativity? If you are not happy with the area, move to another area. Why degrade the town because it does not compare to more urban areas? What is so great about NYC or Philly? That is great if you want to live there. Good luck to you!! There is a reason that auto insurance companies charge much more in premiums for people in highly populated areas verses those of us in farming towns like Manheim. I actually live north of town towards Mastersonville. I can tell you this....my car that sits outside is unlocked. So is my shed. We will actually go for a walk around our "block" (a little over two miles) and leave the garage door up. How many of you can do the same thing?

The most disturbing of comments has to do with the subject of success. I am shocked at how shallow some of you are when you describe success. The web site dictionary.com defines success as "The achievement of something desired, planned, or attempted". From the looks of your posts, I would say that wealth and material things are what you are desiring. How blind can you be?!?!?!? I can only imagine what you would think of our family's "success"!! My wife quit work when we had our first child to be a stay at home mom. Since it has been over nine years since that day, we have been living off of my salary alone. It has been a struggle at times, but our desires are not focused on what we want for ourselves. Parenting is not all about us....it is all about our children. We are both committed to what is best for them. This Christmas, they will only get a few presents from us. Our summer vacations consist of camping trips and biking and hiking outings instead of a trip to Disney World. Do you think that our children will be missing out. One thing I can guarantee everyone on this forum......when each of us is on our death bed, the last thing that we will be worried about will be the size of our retirement account or the value of my home. I will not be laying there regretting the fact that I was not "well educated" and VP of some company. I will be thinking about the time I invested with my family and the fact that my wife was able to raise both of our children herself. I also believe that our girls will be remembering those times as well!! That is MY definition of success!!
Lastly, all four of us will be at Hershey on Friday cheering for our home town football team just like every other week. GO BARONS!!!!!!!
